I enjoy working.
I enjoy working hard.
I quit my last job in HR at La Grande because my boss there gave me no work to do, despite me asking, no begging, for projects and tasks of my own.
I took a job working HR for Deloitte. I was assured during the interview process that there would be no shortage of work for me. I put my notice in, took the rest of my vacation days, and left for the larger name. I couldn’t be happier.
I hadn’t met Ducky.
Ducky was my new boss. He was in charge of who did what in the department I worked in and operated under the mantra of the less work we complete, the less will be expected of us.
The staggering amount of inefficiency here would blow your mind. Nobody in my 12-person team has completed any projects in two years!
How Ducky manages to keep all the upper management happy is best explained using the following analogy. Every year, Ducky promises Deloitte that his team will put a man on the moon within 24 months. The following year, he explains that it is impossible to put a man on the moon when he runs a team of 12 HR specialists. However, the team has identified some principles behind what a team who wanted to put men on the moon would want. And he’s willing to present that research to anyone who will listen.
Nobody does.
Next year he promises to solve global warming. What a great goal, with only 12 staff? We should absolutely keep this man employed, and all his staff.
TBC.
